RENO, Nev. – The Wolf Pack (6-6, 0-1 MW) had its three-match win streak snapped on Saturday by Mountain West foe Fresno State (7-11, 1-0 MW) after losing 4-3 at home. Nevada will play again tomorrow, hosting intrastate rival UNLV at 11 a.m.
With the contest tied 3-3, the match-clinching point came on court No. 6 where Olivia Noble defeated Anastaysha Gorbacheva 6-4, 7-5. It was the Pack's fourth loss this season by one point.
Seniors Claudia Herrero and Blaga Delic began their day with a huge doubles victory on court No. 1, defeating No. 37 ranked Emma Wilson and Georgia Lawson 6-3. Adriana Gergelyova and Gorbacheva secured the doubles point to give Nevada a 1-0 lead by winning 6-4 on court No. 3.
The Bulldogs came out fast in singles play and quickly grabbed two points, with victories on court No. 1 and 4 in straight sets. Freshman Melissa Huchet tied the match at 2-2 with her team-high ninth victory of the season, defeating Lawson on court No. 5 by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
A victory on court No. 2 pushed Fresno State's lead to 3-2, but a huge comeback by Delic that included consecutive tiebreaker victories saw the senior tie the match at three. Delic defeated Ndindi Ndunda 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (11-9) to make her 2-0 on the day.
With the match all knotted up, Fresno State's victory on court No. 6 sealed its first conference victory of the spring. Nevada will look to push its record to .500 in MW play tomorrow when it battles UNLV with Governor's Series points on the line.
