Box Score BOISE, Idaho – The No. 8 seeded Wolf Pack women's tennis team (9-9, 1-4 MW) could not make it past the first round of the Mountain West Championship against No. 9 seeded New Mexico (10-10, 2-3 MW) 4-2 on Thursday. Nevada ends the season with an even 9-9 record, the most wins since 2015.
After securing the doubles point and senior Claudia Herrero won 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 1 in singles, the Lobos rattled off four straight singles victories to clinch the match. New Mexico will now battle No. 1 seed UNLV in the second around.
On court No. 2, freshman Melissa Huchet and junior Marta Ruedas earned a 6-3 victory over the Lobos to win the first doubles match of the day. Herrero and Blaga Delic earned their 16th doubles victory on court No. 1 to clinch the doubles point. The senior tandem came back from being down 1-4 to win the match 6-4.
Herrero continued her dominant day, earning her 61st career singles victory with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court No. 1. Her 61 wins rank as the fifth most in Nevada history.
The Lobos snagged the next four singles victories, clinching the match on court No. 3 to advance in the Championship 4-2.
