RENO, Nev. – Celebrating its three seniors in its last match of the season, the Nevada men's tennis team (15-7, 3-4 MW) fell to Fresno State (17-11, 6-1 MW) on Saturday afternoon 4-1. The Wolf Pack will travel to San Diego next week to compete in the Mountain West Tournament.
After securing the doubles point, the Bulldogs earned three singles victories to clinch the 4-1 victory. Sophomore Kostya Nesterenko was the only member of the Pack to emerge victorious on the day.
The Bulldogs grabbed doubles victories on courts No. 1 and 2, first defeating sophomores Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko 6-2. On court No. 2, Fresno State clinched the first point of the match by emerging victorious over freshman Jeremy Merville and senior Robert Margitfalvi 7-5.
After Fresno State secured a victory on court No. 6, Nesterenko defeated Mantas Bugailiskis on court No. 2, 6-4, 6-2 to cut the Bulldog's lead in half and make the score 2-1. Consecutive victories on courts No. 1 and 3 ended the day for the Pack and dropped it to 3-4 in conference play.
Nevada finishes the regular season with 15 victories, the most since 2014. It will compete in the Mountain West Tournament next Thursday or Friday, depending on the seeding.
