Pack inside top 10 after two rounds of Cowgirl Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Playing in its final regular season event before the Mountain West Championship, the Nevada women's golf team is inside the top 10 at the Cowgirl Classic after two rounds of play.

The Wolf Pack is tied with fellow Mountain West member Wyoming for ninth in the 20-team field after 36 holes of action from Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Nevada posted back-to-back team scores of 298 on Monday and sits at 20-over par for the tournament, two shots behind another league foe in Boise State. Sacramento State is running away with the event as the only team to finish two rounds under par. The Hornets are at 10-under par, 14 strokes better than second place New Mexico State with one round remaining.

On the individual side the Pack has two of its five competitors inside the top 15 in the 111-player field. Junior Chaithra Katamneni and senior Celyn Khoo will both head into the final 18 holes tied for 12th place at 1-over par overall. Katamneni and Khoo carded identical rounds of 71 and 74 on Monday, just in different orders. Katamneni opened with a 2-over round of 74 but shaved three strokes off her afternoon score to post a 71. Khoo on the other hand shot a 71 in the morning and then finished her day with a 74. Both players used a plethora of pars throughout their day to keep their scores in check.

Elsewhere in the Nevada lineup, senior Jordan Keyser ranked third for the Pack and is currently tied for 47th place. Keyser carded a 2-over 74 to start her tournament run but struggled a bit in the afternoon, shooting a 77. Sophomores Jenny Krause and Katy Rutherford round out the Pack competitors in a tie for 71st and tie for 80th, respectively. Krause compiled rounds of 79 and 76 on the day, while Rutherford turned in scores of 79 and 78.

At the top of the individual leaderboard is Pun Chanachai of New Mexico State. She will take a one shot lead into the final round over Kristin Le of Santa Clara.

Nevada concludes the Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday with the final round of play. Live scoring for the entire tournament is available on Golfstat.com.
