Wolf Pack makes moves up the leaderboard at MW Championship

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Moving three spots up the leaderboard, the Nevada women's golf team is in third at the 2018 Mountain West Championship after 36 of 54 holes from Mission Hills Country Club.

The Wolf Pack carded one of the best team scores of the day with a 7-over par round of 295, seven strokes better than its opening round. With that strong play Nevada jumped three spots on the leaderboard into sole possession of third with one round remaining. The Pack trails San Diego State for second by seven shots and trails UNLV by 19 shots for the tournament lead.

Senior Celyn Khoo was a big reason for the Pack's rise to the top half of the leaderboard, making moves of her own on Tuesday. Khoo fired a 1-under par round of 71 in the second round, jumping 11 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for sixth. She got off to a hot start, birding holes No. 2 and 3 before steadily making par on every hole on the back nine. Khoo sits at 2-over for the tournament, just five shots behind Milagros Chaves of SDSU for the lead.

Fellow senior Jordan Keyser also notched a solid day on the course, carding a 2-over 74. Keyser ran into some trouble on the par 4 14th but otherwise played well, making four birdies throughout her round. She will enter the final round just outside the top 10 at 3-over par. Junior Chaithra Katamneni has sole possession of 17th place in the 45-player field as she sits at 7-over par for the tournament. Katamneni shot a 3-over 75 and saved her best hole of the day for last, birding the difficult finishing hole on 18.

Sophomores Jenny Krause and Katy Rutherford round out the Wolf Pack lineup. Krause improved drastically from her opening round 82 to a second round of 75 on Tuesday. Krause avoided big numbers throughout her day and was able to sink three birdies. She moved up five spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 37th. Rutherford struggled on the front side but pulled it together down the stretch, making birdie on two of her last four holes to post a round of 80. She enters the final day in 40th.

Nevada will conclude its run at the Mountain West Championship on Wednesday with the third round of play. Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
