RENO, Nev. – After a brilliant performance by the Wolf Pack (6-5) on Friday afternoon against Stanislaus State (6-11), Nevada will welcome Fresno State and UNLV to the McArthur Tennis Center next weekend. The Pack defeated the Warriors 7-0 on Friday, winning every match in straight sets.
The duo of newcomers in Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Marta Ruedas set the tone for the afternoon, winning the first doubles match 6-0 on court No. 3. Seniors Claudia Herrero and Blaga Delic, ranked as the No. 73 doubles tandem by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association clinched the doubles point for the Pack on court No. 1 by a score of 6-1. Doubles play finished with freshmen Lili Fekete and Melissa Huchet taking the third doubles match on court No. 3 over the Warriors 6-3.
Nevada stayed hot throughout its singles matches, extending its lead to 2-0 after Herrero won convincingly on court No. 1 over Cassidy Ferrell 6-2, 6-0. Delic added to the lead with a big win of her own on court No. 3, defeating Megan Hagerty 6-2, 6-0 to make Nevada's lead 3-0.
Fekete clinched the match for Nevada on court No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory go give Nevada its third win in a row. Gorbacheva, Huchet and Ruedas topped off the afternoon to sweep the Warriors and give Nevada a boost of confidence before welcoming its first conference foes in 2018.
Both matches next weekend will feature live stats. Fresno State will come to Reno on Friday, while intrastate rival UNLV will play Nevada on Sunday. Both matches will take place at 11 a.m.
