SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Nevada women's golf team placed two individuals in the top 15 and earned a tie for fourth place at the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday.
The Wolf Pack collected a team score of 307 in the final round, one stroke better than its second round score. At 41-over par for the tournament the Pack tied with Towson for fourth place in the eight-team field. Tournament host Sacramento State captured the event title at even par as no teams finished under par. The Hornets bested runner-up San Francisco by two shots.
Individually Nevada placed two inside the top 15 in the 53-person field. Junior
Chaithra Katamneni led the way for the Pack with a tie for 11
th place, her best finish of the season. Katamneni played a mostly clean round of golf on Tuesday, carding a team-best 2-over 74 which helped her jump five spots on the leaderboard. Fellow junior
Kaitlin Collom also earned a top 15 after shooting a 75 for the third consecutive round. Collom was entered as an individual however, meaning her score did not count towards the team score. The tie for 15
th is Collom's best finish of the season.
Sophomore
Jenny Krause turned in one of the top Wolf Pack rounds of the day, tying Collom's mark of a 3-over 75. Her round of 75 tied for her lowest round of the tournament after also shooting a 75 in Monday's second round. Krause tied for 22
nd place. Senior
Celyn Khoo and sophomore
Katy Rutherford struggled in the final round, each carding rounds in the 80s. With Khoo's solid first round yesterday though she still managed a top 25 finish. Rutherford finished in sole possession of 33
rd place. Senior
Jordan Keyser rebounded after having to withdraw from the second round to post a 78 on Tuesday.
Vanessa Ha of San Francisco won a tightly contested individual race, finishing at 5-under par. She bested runner-up Astha Madan of Sacramento State by one stroke. Just four individuals finished the event under par.
Nevada will participate in one final regular season event, the Cowgirl Classic, April 2-3 from AK Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. before competing in the Mountain West Championship April 16-18.
