SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It was the story of two different rounds of golf Monday for the Nevada women's golf team as the Wolf Pack began play at the Sacramento State Invitational.
The Wolf Pack currently sits in fourth place in the eight-team field at 22-over par. Nevada had a solid start to the day carding a team round of 290, its second-lowest team round of the season. After the morning session the Pack found itself in third place, just eight shots back. The team struggled in the afternoon however, shooting a team round of 308 and falling to fourth place. San Francisco paces the field at 9-under par and is the only team in the field under par. The Dons lead second place, and tournament host, Sacramento State by 12 shots heading into Tuesday's final round.
Individually for the Wolf Pack the team was led by senior
Celyn Khoo. Khoo made five birdies in her first round to post a 1-under round of 71 and was in contention for the lead. A 78 in the afternoon though dropped Khoo to 12
th place in the field of 52. Junior
Chaithra Katamneni also had a strong opening to the tournament, posting an even par round of 72. She struggled in the afternoon as well and matched Khoo with a 78 of her own and enters the final round tied for 16
th.
Sophomores
Katy Rutherford and
Jenny Krause posted identical rounds of 77 and 75 on the day, but did so in reverse order of one another. They are both tied for 24
th place at 8-over par. Junior
Kaitlin Collom, who is entered as an individual, is tied with Katamneni in 16
th place after back-to-back rounds of 75 on Monday. Senior
Jordan Keyser began the event but had to withdraw in the second round.
Vanessa Ha of San Francisco leads the individual field at 9-under par, seven shots better than second place Astha Madan of Sacramento State and Marisa Hisaki of Northern Colorado.
