ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Nevada (5-5) wrapped up its three-match road trip to northern California this afternoon by claiming a 6-3 victory at Sonoma State (10-4) on Sunday afternoon. The Wolf Pack will return home to play its first match of the season at the McArthur Tennis Center this Sunday against University of the Pacific at 1 p.m.
Playing Division II rules, each doubles match counted as its own point. Nevada swept all three to take a quick 3-0 lead over the Seawolves, beginning with junior Marta Ruedas and freshman Anastaysha Gorbacheva winning 8-2 on court No. 3. Adriana Gereglyova and Melissa Huchet soon followed with an 8-4 victory, and on court No. 1 seniors Claudia Herrero and Blaga Delic secured their seventh doubles victory of 2018.
Singles play began with Gorbacheva giving Nevada a 4-0 advantage in the match with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over Katherine Long on court No. 6. Huchet clinched the match on court No. 4 by taking down Clarissa Colling 6-2, 6-1 on court No. 4 for the fifth point for the Pack. Lili Fekete also earned a victory to give Nevada its sixth and final point. The three freshmen are each on a four win streak in singles.
The Seawolves grabbed each of its three points when the match was already won by Nevada, earning victories on court No. 1-3.
