LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team opened up play at the Rebel Beach Invitational on Monday with the first two rounds of competition and sit in a tie for ninth with 18 holes remaining.
On a day with swirling winds and tough scoring conditions the Wolf Pack carded team rounds of 307 and 312 on the day and is tied with Mountain West foe Colorado State for ninth in the 12-team field. Nevada also ranks ahead of fellow MW school Wyoming and is one spot below New Mexico. With nearly half of the MW teams entered in the event this week, tournament co-host UNLV leads the event at 14-over par, one shot better than Kennesaw State. The tough scoring conditions were evidenced by none of the 12 teams recording a round under par and all 12 recording at least one team round of 300 or above.
For Nevada, senior
Celyn Khoo enters the final day as the top ranking member of the Wolf Pack. Khoo notched a solid round of 74 in the morning but struggled in the afternoon, carding a 78. She sits in a tie for 29
th place at 8-over par. Fellow senior
Jordan Keyser carded the best Wolf Pack round of the day in the opening 18 holes with a 1-over 73 but also struggled in the second round with a round of 80. She is currently tied for 34
th.
Junior
Chaithra Katamneni recorded the best turnaround by a Wolf Pack player on Monday. Katamneni shot a round of 79 in the earlier part of the day but shaved five strokes off her score for round two, finishing with a 2-over 74 to also jump into a tie for 34
th. Sophomores
Katy Rutherford and
Jenny Krause round out the Pack lineup and sit in ties for 59
th and 65
th, respectively. Krause cut five shots off her first round score to notch a round of 80 in the afternoon.
Of the 71 individuals competing in the event, not one of them sit under par for the tournament. Co-leaders Kendra Dalton of BYU and Clara Aveling of Kennesaw State are both even through two rounds to lead the field. The tail end of the top 10 are currently at 5-over par.
Nevada will conclude the Rebel Beach Invitational on Tuesday with the final round of competition.
