SAN ANTONIO – Senior
Sharae Zheng chronicled yet another historic performance at the Mountain West Championship on Thursday, where she set the conference record in the 3-meter springboard to help lead the Nevada swimming and diving team to 433 points after the second day of the conference championship. The Wolf Pack sits in third overall behind Boise State (491) and San Diego State (451.5).
Zheng's score of 424.53 marks the second year in a row she has set the MW record as she has now become a three-time MW Champion in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard. In 2017, Zheng swept all three diving events at the conference championship and will seek to hold that same honor when she steps on the platform.
On the day, Zheng was one of four participants of the Wolf Pack's squad to compete in the A finals as junior
Sio I Lei joined her diving teammate in the top eight, where Lei placed sixth in the 3-meter springboard with a score of 279.00. In the 200-yard IM, sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis and freshman
Donna dePolo took second and fourth, respectively.
A tight race throughout, Cholodovskis narrowly lost out on the gold, finishing 0.12 seconds behind the first place finisher and completed the event in 1:59.40. dePolo recorded a 2:01.49, which is a season-best time for her.
Led by sophomore
Diana Sokolowska, who won the 500-yard freestyle B final with a time of 4:48.94, the Pack's distance swimmers also competed well as freshman
Caitlyn McHugh placed 13
th overall with a time of 5:51.54. Nevada's 200-yard freestyle relay team that was comprised of senior
Emma Payne and juniors
Rebecca Murray,
Jamie Reynolds and
Caitlyn Richardson recorded the third-fastest time in school history, swimming the event in 1:31.81.
