RENO, Nev. – For the first time in his career, Nevada punter
Quinton Conaway has earned a spot on the Google Cloud Academic All-District team, selected by CoSIDA, for District VIII.
Conaway is the first Wolf Pack football student-athlete to earn the distinction since former linebacker Jordan Dobrich was selected in 2014. Since Dobrich's selection in 2014, there have been just five others, including Conaway, to earn the honor from Nevada. He is one of nine to receive the recognition from around the Mountain West, and is one of four in the conference out of District VIII.
Conaway, a junior management major with a 3.90 grade point average, is having a career season for the bowl eligible Wolf Pack. The Oklahoma native, who was named a nominee for the Ray Guy Award earlier this month, has set career numbers in nearly all categories including yards (1,972), long (74) and average (43.8). His average of 43.8 ranks fifth in the Mountain West and is in the top 30 nationally. Conaway's best game of the season came in a win over San Diego State when he posted an average of 51.1 yards per punt on nine punts and pinned the Aztecs inside their own 20-yard line four times.
This award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team ballot, where first and second team All-America honorees will be selected in early December.
Nevada will hit the road looking for win No. 7 on the year when it takes on San Jose State this Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.
