HENDERSON, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team closed out its fall season with a ninth place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
The Wolf Pack turned in its best team score of the tournament on Tuesday with a 2-over round of 290. It marked the Pack's lowest team score of the season as well. Nevada finished the event at 10-over par overall to earn a top 10 finish. No. 29 Oregon State held on to the team lead and captured the tournament title at 26-under, four shots better than runner-up Tulsa.
Senior
Chaithra Katamneni jumped 19 spots on the individual leaderboard thanks to a 3-under 69 in the final round, the best round by a Pack player this week. Katamneni played a near perfect round of golf, with just one bogey on her scorecard and four birdies to go along with 13 pars. The round of 69 is a season-low for Katamneni and helped her finish in a tie for 21
st place at even par for the tournament.
Freshman
Victoria Gailey also tied with her teammate in 21
st place, finishing at even par overall. Gailey produced back-to-back rounds of 71 before shooting a 74 in the final round to bring her score to even par. She finishes the fall season with a scoring average of 72.75, which is on pace to set the single season program record.
Elsewhere for the Pack, junior
Jenny Krause carded a second consecutive even par round to finish at 2-over for the event and in a tie for 31
st. Fellow junior
Katy Rutherford tied her season-low round of 75 on Tuesday and ended her run in a tie for 64
th in the 90-player field. Rounding out the Pack lineup is freshman
Kate Choi who finished tied for 70
th in her collegiate debut.
Lorena Tseng of Tulsa fired a final round 65 to earn individual medalist honors by two shots over runner-up Brigitte Thibault of Fresno State.
Nevada will return to competition Feb. 11-12 at the Battle at the Rock at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif.
