Pack completes first round at Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

HENDERSON, Nev. – Freshman Victoria Gailey led the Nevada women's golf team on day one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Gailey, who has had a solid debut season so far for the Wolf Pack, fired a 1-under 71 during the opening round of the event. She made three birdies throughout her round, including two on a perfectly played back nine. At 1-under par after 18 holes of play, Gailey is tied for 13th and is five shots behind the individual leader, Olivia Jackson of Tulsa.

As a team, Nevada combined for a score of 292, which is tied for its second-lowest round of the season. In one of the most competitive fields it will face all season, the Wolf Pack at just 4-over par sits in 11th place in the 17-team field. Nevada will enter Monday's second round 12 shots behind No. 29 Oregon State.

No member of the Pack lineup shot higher than 4-over par on Sunday. Right behind Gailey is senior Chaithra Katamneni, who fired an even par 72 for her opening round. Katamneni made 16 pars during her round, a birdie on No. 12 and had just one blemish, a bogey on No. 17. With tight scores all the way around, despite being just one shot behind her teammate, Katamneni is listed in a tie for 26th with two rounds to go.

Junior Jenny Krause carded a 2-over 74 for her outing and is tied for 41st in the 90-player field. Krause made three birdies today and played the front nine at even par. Making her collegiate debut this event is freshman Kate Choi, who finished with a 3-over 75 and is currently tied for 50th. Choi made three birdies during her debut. Rounding out the Pack lineup is junior Katy Rutherford, who shot a 4-over 76 today and is tied for 63rd.
