Box Score RENO, Nev. – The Nevada volleyball team (8-12, 1-8) fell to the Mountain West leader, Fresno State (15-6, 7-1) in four sets on Thursday night.
The set scores were as follows: 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 11-25 with The Pack winning the first set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kayla Afoa lead the team with 19 kills and only three errors on 38 attempts for a team high .421 hitting percentage. Afoa also was responsible for two block assists on the night. Behind her was junior
Jamila Minor with six kills and redshirt freshman
Hailey Maniglia with five.
Nevada took claim over the first set, jumping to an early lead and was up 12-6 towards the middle of the set. The Bulldogs tried to rally and put together a string of points but the Pack held on to take it, 25-21.
Fresno State answered back in the second set and went up 8-4 early on. It went back-and-forth for most of the set with no team having a scoring run until later when the Bulldogs claimed three points in a row to lead 21-14 but the Pack responded with a six-point run to cut the lead to one, 22-21. Three Nevada errors gave Fresno State the match, 25-21.
The third set was similar in that it was a close match, a back-and-forth effort from both teams but the Bulldogs took advantage of Nevada errors and capitalized with kills in response. The fourth and final set however was all Fresno State.
