LAS VEGAS – The Nevada swimming and diving team competed in a dual against UNLV on Saturday and defeated the Rebels by a score of 169-129 to improve to 3-2 on the year. This meet was originally scheduled to be a double dual with UNLV and Air Force, but due to the government shutdown, the Falcons were unable to make the trip.
"Today was a hard-fought meet with a lot of close races," head coach
Brendon Bray said. "Our divers had a great day and Andressa had three amazing swims. We had our seniors win four individual races from
Jaeger Turner and
Emma Payne, who may have had their best meet of the year. Overall, we raced really well all the way down the roster and I'm looking forward to the conference meet."
The Wolf Pack won a total of 10 events on the day, including both diving competitions and seven individual events. Leading the way for Nevada was sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis, who came out on top of three races and senior
Sharae Zheng, who swept the diving events.
After collecting the Pack's first win of the day in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.14), Cholodovskis topped that performance with victories in the 100-yard freestyle (50.61) and the 200-yard IM (2:03.60). She was followed by sophomore
Diana Sokolowska in the 200-yard freestyle and junior
Rebecca Murray in the 100-yard freestyle.
Senior
Jaeger Turner also collected multiple wins against the Rebels, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.24 and winning the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.04. Her senior counterpart
Emma Payne capped off the Wolf Pack's individual victories by coming out on top of the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, swimming both events with times of 23.75 and 56.09, respectively.
In just her second collegiate competition, freshman
Imogen Watson finished the day with a pair of top three finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (55.44) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.53). On the diving side, while Zheng won both the 1-meter (331.58) and 3-meter (398.33) springboard, juniors Soi I Lei and
Toma Shmitova also had top three finishes. Lei placed third in the 3-meter springboard with a score of 306.00 and Shmitova finished second in the 1-meter springboard (285.83).
Nevada will now prepare for the 2018 Mountain West Championships which is scheduled to take place Feb. 14-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
