RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's tennis team finished the first day of the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational today, and showcased its dominance in doubles play by winning two of its three matches. The Wolf Pack will go head-to-head tomorrow against Wisconsin in doubles and California State University, Northridge in singles.
The Pack began its day in doubles play against CSU Northridge, where senior Blaga Delic and freshman Melissa Huchet teamed up to earn a 7-5 victory over Arpe Bagumyan and Mari Taslagyan. Nevada earned its second victory when Adriana Gergelyova and Maria Tatarnikova took down the tandem of Elisaveta Nosenko from CSU Northridge and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri from Long Beach State.
Nevada battled all day in singles, but was unable to find a win. Facing off against Long Beach State, the closest the Pack came to a singles victory was when Nevada freshman Anastaysha Gorbacheva took Sadeghvaziri to a third set, but ultimately fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The second day of the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational will commence tomorrow, with the Pack facing off against CSU Northridge again and Wisconsin.
