RENO, Nev. – In its opening event of the 2017-18 campaign, the Nevada swimming team won the Nevada relays in convincing fashion, finishing the relays winning nine of the 10 events. The Pack completed the day with 186 points and was followed by San Diego State (152), who finished in second and UC Davis (102).
"It was a great start to our season," Nevada head coach
Brendon Bray said. "I'm really proud every one of our athletes as they all put on a great performance today."
The day began with Nevada coming out strong, winning the 300-yard butterfly in 2:50.61. That relay team was made up of sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis, senior
Emma Payne and junior
Rebecca Murray, who as unit beat out SDSU by less than three seconds.
Following that victory, Nevada continued to set its run of dominance in the 300-yard backstroke and breaststroke relay, coming out on top of each event by at least five seconds. The 800-yard freestyle relay that consisted of sophomore
Diana Sokolowska, Cholodovskis, junior
Caitlyn Richardson and Murray, turned out to be the Pack's most undoubted victory on the day, winning that event by nine seconds with a time of 7:37.57.
In the 500-yard freestyle relay, junior
Jamie Reynolds got things going for the Pack, setting the pace that led to Nevada's fifth victory of the day, winning the event in 4:33.55. After Nevada won the 400-yard medley relay, the Pack relied on its experience to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, as senior
Jaeger Turner served as the team's anchor to edge out the Aztecs by a second and win the event with a time of 1:36.53.
Prior to Nevada's ninth and final victory of the afternoon in 4x100-yard IM, the Pack found itself on top of the 1,500-yard freestyle relay, the longest event of the relays. Led off by freshman
Caitlyn McHugh, Cholodovskis and Murray rounded off that event's team, winning in 15:48.18.
Up next, Nevada will travel to Fresno, Calif. to compete in the Fresno State Invite. The two-day event is slated from Oct. 6-7 and is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. PT each day.
