Nevada drops opener in Maui Classic to No. 21 Oregon State

WAILUKI, Hawai'i – Playing its second top 25 team in four days, the Nevada women's basketball team dropped the opener of the Maui Classic, 89-49, to No. 21 Oregon State Friday evening from the War Memorial Arena.
 
The difference maker in the game was three-point shooting. The Beavers (4-2) connected on 54.2 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, knocking down 13. The Wolf Pack (3-4) attempted 14 less shots from the three-point line and connected on two.
 
Nevada did not turn the ball over very often, just 10 times in the game, but the offense overall shot 27.4 percent (17-of-62), compared to Oregon State's 53.7 percent (36-of-67) from the floor. The Beavers also dished out 22 assists and racked up seven blocked shots.
 
Senior Teige Zeller led the Wolf Pack in scoring with 17 points, her fourth straight game in double figures, and fifth of the season. Zeller also grabbed seven rebounds, finishing three rebounds shy of the team's first double-double of the season. Junior Terae Briggs also scored in double figures, recording 12 points after going 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Senior T Moe was one point shy of a game in double figures, notching nine points and three assists.
 
Nevada concludes the Maui Jim Maui Classic against Montana State tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. local time, 7 p.m. Pacific.
 
Postgame notes
-Senior Teige Zeller led the Pack in scoring with 17 points, her fourth straight game in double figures, fifth of the season and 17th of her career.
-Oregon State shot 54.2 percent from the three-point line, hitting 13 threes, compared to Nevada's two.
-Junior Terae Briggs finished with 12 points, her fourth game in double figures this season and 15th of her career.
-Nevada led in points off turnover, 13-6.
-No. 21 Oregon State is the second top 25 team the Wolf Pack has faced in the past four days.
-The all-time series between Nevada and Oregon State now stands at 5-0 in favor of Oregon State.
