WAILUKI, Hawai'i – The Nevada women's basketball team concluded its run at the Maui Classic, hosted by Oregon State, with a 67-53 win over defending Big Sky champion Montana State.
The Wolf Pack evened its overall record at 4-4 on the year with three nonconference games remaining on the schedule. Nevada went 1-1 at the Maui Classic with Saturday's win and Friday's loss to tournament host Oregon State.
Junior
Jade Redmon led the Pack with a game-high 17 points, her third game in double figures this season. Redmon knocked down 6-of-8 from the field and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line en route to establishing a new career high. Junior
Terae Briggs finished with 15 points, which included 14 in the first half, and was named to the Maui Classic All-Tournament team. For the weekend, Briggs averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and went 13-of-15 from the free throw line. Sophomore
Camariah King also produced points in double figures with 11 points, hitting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Neither team put together its best offensive performance of the season, however the Wolf Pack's free throw shooting proved to be the difference in the game. The Bobcats (5-3) connected on 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field while the Pack hit 38.0 percent (19-of-50) of its shots. MSU did knock down nine three pointers to Nevada's three, but only went to the free throw line six times, making two of the six attempts. The Wolf Pack finished the game 26-of-34 from the line, which included going 16-of-19 down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
While the Bobcats started the comeback trail in the second half, the 32-14 halftime deficit was too much to overcome. The Nevada defense held the Bobcats to just 14 first half points, a season low for the Pack, and allowed its opponent to score just five points in the second quarter.
Nevada is off from competition until next Saturday, Dec. 9 when it travels to Seattle, Wash. to face off against Seattle University at 4 p.m.
