RENO, Nev. – With the first Governor's Series points of the year on the line, the Nevada Wolf Pack (5-12, 3-2 MW) will welcome the UNLV Rebels (5-13, 1-4) to the Virginia Street Gym Saturday.
Match time is set for 1 p.m. with a moment of silence for the victims of Sunday night's shooting planned. Ribbon banners will hang in VSG and coaches will wear ribbon patches. The Wolf Pack is 8-20 all-time against the Rebels, but won the most recent matchup, beating the UNLV 3-1 on Nov. 19 of last season.
"The rivalry matchup is always exciting, but for this match it's a little different," head coach Lee Nelson said. "We're excited to play the Rebels, but also to show our support for a community that is hurting right now."
Nevada will continue to maneuver through a banged up roster, a method that worked well on Thursday night in the win over New Mexico. Sophomore Ayla Fresenius tallied a career-high 24 kills while senior Madison Foley, filling in at libero, dug a career-high 24 balls.
Looking at the opponent, UNLV picked up its first conference win, toppling San José State, a team Nevada beat to start Mountain West play. The two teams hit very similar as Nevada carries a .159 hitting percentage into the match compared to UNLV's .154. Nevada averages almost two more assists per set than the Rebels.
Tickets are available for the match at NevadaWolfPack.com or by calling 348-PACK. Fans who can't make it to VSG can watch the match live on NevadaWolfPack.TV and follow along with stats at nevadastats.com
