FRESNO, Calif. – Following the conclusion of the opening day of the Chick-fil-A Invitational, the Nevada swimming and diving team sits in third place with 395 points. The Wolf Pack is behind California, who leads the competition with 879 points and San Diego State, who is in second with 443 points.
Nevada found itself in a battle with SDSU for much of the day as the two teams exchanged spots for second place multiple times. Collectively, the Pack swimmers composed 11 top five finishes, including two from sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis who recorded the team's only victory of the day, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.07.
Cholodovskis was followed by sophomore
Diana Sokolowska (1:52.88), as well as juniors
Caitlyn Richardson (1:53.22) and
Rebecca Murray (1:53.25) who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in that event. Freshman
Caitlyn McHugh recorded the Pack's first top five finish of the day, placing fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.46. She also served as the anchor in Nevada's third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle, along with Sokolowska, Murray and Cholodovskis.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Pack's A team that consisted of junior
Jamie Reynolds, senior
Emma Payne, Richardson and Murray recorded a time of 1:36.08, good enough to finish the event in fourth. Reynolds also recorded a 1:05.37 in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing fifth in the event, while senior
Kate Hofmeyer placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.06.
Nevada will be back in the pool on Saturday, Oct. 7 for the second and final day of the Chick-fil-A Invitational. First event of the day is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. PT. Live results of the invitational can be viewed on Fresno State's
