RENO, Nev. – The Nevada swimming and diving team will host a pair of dual meets on Friday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. PT and Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon PT when the team welcomes Boise State and Fresno State to Lombardi Pool. This weekend also marks the last home meet of the 2017-18 campaign as the Wolf Pack will honor five members of its program prior to Nevada's dual with the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Following its season-opening victory at the Nevada Relays, where the team won in dominating fashion over SDSU and UC Davis, the Pack took home a third place finish at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. In its first invitational of the season, Nevada battled with San Diego State for much of the two-day event as both teams exchanged spots for second place. The Pack also saw Fresno State for the first time this season, giving Nevada an idea of what to expect from the Bulldogs this weekend.
ABOUT BOISE STATE
The reigning Mountain West Champions picked up right where the team left off last year, winning its season-opener over Idaho. Though the Broncos lost their core of seniors from last season, Boise State returns a solid group of veterans, having a combined 11 juniors and seniors on this year's squad. Boise State is led by its third-year head coach, Jeremy Kipp who is a two-time reigning MW Coach of the Year, where he guided his team to a conference championship in 2017.
ABOUT FRESNO STATE
The Bulldogs come to Reno for their first dual of the year, after they hosted the Chick-fil-A Invitational to open up its season. Though they have only competed in one event this year, Fresno State has already earned a MW accolade as junior Ugne Mazutaityte won MW Swimmer of the Week honors for the first week of the 2017-18 season. Fresno State is loaded with experience with its 12 juniors and seniors on its roster, as head coach Jeanne Fleck is currently serving her 10th season at the helm of the Bulldog swimming and diving program.
THE CHAMP IS HERE... THE CHAMP IS HERE
Looking to solidify her spot as the best diver in program history, senior
Sharae Zheng will make her season debut this weekend. A two-time national champion, Zheng is coming off a junior campaign where she swept all three diving events at last year's Mountain West Championships, which led her to earn All-American honors after her performance in both the 1 and 3-meter springboard at NCAA Championships.
DON'T FORGET ABOUT "DRE"
Since joining the team at semester break last season, sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis has quickly made her mark as one of the best swimmers in the conference. Last season, she earned All-Conference honors in the 200-yard IM and freestyle, and this year she is making her case for a MW Swimmer of the Year accolade. At the Chick-fil-A Invitational where she went up against three other MW opponents, Cholodovksis not only won Nevada's lone event of the weekend, but she also placed above all other MW swimmers in three of the four individual events she competed in.
