HENDERSON, Nev. – On a gusty day at Boulder Creek Golf Club, the Nevada women's golf team concluded its run at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown with a 13
th place finish.
With not ideal scoring conditions for the final round, the Wolf Pack carded a team score of 310 on Tuesday to earn the 13
th spot in the 16-team field. Nevada finished the tournament with an overall score of 896 (+32). None of the 16 participating teams finished the final round under par. UNLV hung on to win its own event by 10 strokes over runner-up San Jose State.
Coming into today's final round no member of the Wolf Pack lineup had committed worse than a bogey to their scorecard but with tough conditions Tuesday a few big numbers popped up. Senior
Celyn Khoo began the day at 3-under par but after a round of 77 she finished the event at 2-over par but still earned a top 25 finish in the 96-player field.
Fellow senior
Jordan Keyser turned in one of the best Nevada rounds of the day with a 4-over 76 to tie for 43
rd. Sophomore
Jenny Krause also carded a 4-over 76 on Tuesday and placed in a tie for 54
th at 9-over par for the tournament. Juniors
Chaithra Katamneni and
Kaitlin Collom both struggled on the day, shooting rounds in the 80s. Katamneni tied for 72
nd and Collom tied for 80
th.
Elizabeth Prior of tournament-winning UNLV found a way to conquer the wind today to shoot a 5-under 67 and claim the individual title. Prior finished at 16-under par for the tournament and won by 10 shots over runner-up finishers Emma Allen of Missouri and Mimi Ho of Fresno State.
Nevada has one fall tournament remaining, which will take place Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawai'i.
