BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of Nevada women's tennis team wrapped up its second day at the Cal Invitational with freshmen Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Melissa Huchet going to the semifinals in their singles brackets. Maria Tatarnikova and doubles partner Sofi Wicker from Sacramento State won the White Doubles consolation bracket.
Gorbacheva has impressed in her first collegiate tournament, advancing all the way to the semifinals in the Blue Singles bracket with a victory over Hermehr Kaur of BYU by retirement. Huchet has been unstoppable in White Singles, defeating Caro Chemyatski from Sacramento State 6-3, 6-1. That match is the first time this tournament that Huchet has lost more than one game in a singles match.
After losing in the first round of the White Doubles bracket, Tatarnikova and Sacramento State's Wicker won both of their matches on the day to win the consolation bracket. The duo defeated Shirley Hall and Jessica Walker of UC Davis 8-6 in the finals.
Senior Blaga Delic and freshman Lili Fekete won their first match of the day against Amber DelRosario and Sarina Chhabra from the University of San Francisco 8-2 to reach the finals of the White Doubles. The tandem could not win the bracket, as they were defeated 8-4 by a different tandem from USF consisting of Hanna Borjeson and Aisha Shama.
Gorbacheva continued her big day with teammate Marta Ruedas when the tandem was victorious in the Blue Doubles consolation bracket after taking down Madeline Almeida and Samantha Smith of BYU. The two Wolf Pack newcomers will face Emily Maxfield and Shanna DosSantos of USF today in the finals.
