BERKELEY, Calif. – Wolf Pack freshman Melissa Huchet defeated Santa Clara's Nadine DelCarmen 6-1, 6-3 in the finals to win the ITA White Singles bracket at the Cal Invitational. Huchet ended the tournament 5-0 in singles play.
Anastaysha Gorbacheva finished her strong showing at the tournament by winning the Blue Consolation bracket with Marta Ruedas by defeating Shanna DosSantos and Emily Maxfield from the University of San Francisco 8-3. Gorbacheva advanced all the way to the semifinals in the Gold Singles bracket before falling to Fresno State's Juliane Triebe 6-2, 7-5.
The Wolf Pack went 3-0 in round robin singles action to wrap up the tournament on Sunday. Senior Blaga Delic defeated Valeria Garcia of Sacramento State 6-4, 6-0 and Marta Ruedas was victorious over Cal's Audrey Mayer 4-6, 6-2, 1-0. Maria Tatarnikova dominated Amber DelRosario of USF, only losing one game in her 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Senior Claudia Herrero, who advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the Blue Singles bracket, will head to Pacific Palisades this week to compete in the ITA Women's All-American Championships. Make sure to follow the team on Twitter to stay up to date on the Wolf Pack women's tennis team.
