RENO, Nev. -- The annual Silver and Blue Spring Game is scheduled for Saturday as part of a big weekend on the University of Nevada campus.
Gates at Mackay Stadium open at noon and the game with a specialized scoring format will begin at 1 p.m. for third-year coach Brian Polian and the Wolf Pack. Selected coaches and players will be available for autographs after the game and the Wolf Pack's free spring poster will be distributed. Admission to the spring game is free.
Tailgating lots open Friday evening (with RSVP to 775-348-PACK) and Friday evening also marks the start of the football alumni weekend, including a poker tournament at the Eldorado Hotel-Casino. Fans are encouraged to come out Saturday morning to tailgate with the Pack and take part in the annual Tailgate Throwdown which begins at 8 a.m.
Because of construction of the new two-story, 2700-square foot restroom facility at Mackay, the main gates (southwest entrance) to the stadium will be closed. Fans are asked to park in the North Lots or West Stadium Parking Complex and utilize the northwest entrance to the stadium. The southeast entrance to the stadium will also be open.
The Nevada cheer team and mascots will perform at 11 a.m. in the tailgate lot and bouncehouses and other activities for children will be on site. Five radio stations will be at Mackay with live remotes, includes ESPN Radio 94.5 FM.
Fans are encouraged to head over to Peccole Park after the game to catch the nationally ranked Wolf Pack baseball team take on San Jose State after the Spring Game. Tickets for the baseball game start at just $7 with discounts available for youth and seniors.
The Relay for Life will be held at Mackay beginning Thursday and into the weekend. Saturday's baseball game is the middle of a three-game series against San Jose State. First pitch Friday is at 6 p.m. and Sunday's matchup -- the #PopulatePeccole game -- is a sellout with first pitch at 1 p.m.
The Pack's limited-edition "Battle Born" chrome helmets are being sold to the public for the first time and will be available for purchase at the game. The cost is $350 per helmet (cash only).
Silver and Blue Outfitters will be on hand at the game with the latest official Wolf Pack apparel.
The team will utilize a specialized scoring format for the game. Rather than split into two teams, it will be offense (white uniforms) versus defense (blue) for four quarters with a running clock. There will be no kickoffs as each possession will begin at the 30-yard line.
The point system for the offense is: Touchdown: 6 points; extra point: 1 point; 2-point conversion: 2 points; field goal: 3 points; big chunk pass play (25 yards or longer): 2 points; big chunk run play (20 yards or longer): 2 points.
The defense's point system is: Touchdown: 7 points; turnover forced before 50-yard line: 6 points; turnover forced after 50-yard line: 4 points; defensive stop before 50-yard line: 4 points; defensive stop after 50-yard line: 2 points; safety: 2 points; sack: 2 points.
Football season tickets are on sale now and start at just $99 for adults and $55 for youth (7th grade and younger). Sales and information tables for tickets will be available at Mackay Stadium. Game rosters will be available at those tables.
