University of Nevada Sports Medicine Student Athletic Training Internship Program
The Department of Sports Medicine at University of Nevada provides volunteer opportunities to University of Nevada undergraduate students who are interested in careers within sports medicine, complete the application process, and are selected to be part of the program. This internship program provides hands-on experience working with certified athletic trainers and other sports medicine professionals in the everyday operation of the sports medicine department as well as the evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries at University of Nevada.
Certified athletic trainers, who evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate the athletes of University of Nevada athletes will be your supervisors. They work with a phenomenal team of team physicians, with specialists ranging from primary care to orthopedics, as well as other allied healthcare professionals.
Sports Medicine Interns help not only in the daily activities and function of the athletic training room, but also work on the sidelines of sporting events and even travel to some events. You will gain experience in monitoring rehabilitation programs, evaluating injuries, and applying various modalities in the treatment of injuries.
Requirements
- Be an enrolled University of Nevada student
- Current CPR/AED certification
- 20 hours of work out of season
- 30 hours of work in season (not including game/event coverage)
- Minimum 3.0 semester GPA, AND a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA

Applications submitted in the fall will be considered for the spring rotation, and applications received in the spring will be considered for the fall rotation. Specific dates for Fall and Spring application deadlines are in the student handbook attached to the application.
