RENO, Nev. – Nevada opened Mountain West play Thursday evening at Mackay Stadium, falling 2-0 to Wyoming in the conference opener.
The Cowgirls struck early, finding the back of the net within the opening five minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Wyoming's early advantage held through the remainder of the first half despite Nevada's offensive efforts.
Coming out of the break, the Wolf Pack responded with increased energy and urgency. Nevada battled to create opportunities while both teams exchanged possession through a competitive and physical second half.
With the match still within reach, Wyoming added an insurance goal in the 78th minute to extend its lead to 2-0. The Wolf Pack continued to press late but was unable to break through as the Cowgirls secured the conference-opening victory.
Nevada will look to bounce back on the road as Mountain West play continues. The Wolf Pack travels to Albuquerque, for a Sunday matchup against New Mexico with kickoff scheduled for noon.
