LOS ANGELES -Â Nevada dropped its road series at No. 18 USC with Friday night's 11-3 loss at Dedeaux Field.
Nevada (23-23) tied the game with two runs in the second on
Sean Yamaguchi's 12th homer of the season then an RBI double from
Jack Metcho. But USC (40-12) quickly retook the lead on Dean Carpentier's solo homer to lead off the bottom half, then got two more runs on an RBI single from Isaac Cadena and a sacrifice fly from Kevin Takeuchi to go up 5-2.
Back-to-back homers from Jack Baseer and Andrew Lamb to start the third broke it open for the Trojans against starter
Dominic Desch and reliever
Eric Valdez. Baseer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs on the night, drove in two more with a double in USC's four-run sixth which gave them am 11-2 lead and put things out of reach.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead after the first, capitalizing on a Wolf Pack error to get two unearned runs off of Desch.
Jackson Waller added a solo homer to follow up his three-hit game from Thursday night for the Wolf Pack.
Desch fell to 2-3 with the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits over two-plus innings. For USC, Grant Govel improved to x-x, striking out seven and giving up just two runs over six innings.
The teams will play the finale Saturday at 1 p.m. before the Pack returns to Reno for its final Mountain West series of the regular season. Nevada hosts GCU Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16, at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
