RENO, Nev. - Nevada's Aidan Brainard was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week Monday after his outstanding performance in Friday's 3-2 series-opening win at New Mexico.

Brainard struck out seven and allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings. After stranding seven Lobo batters on the basepaths through the first three innings, Brainard retired the final 10 batters he faced beginning with the final out of the third.

The win upped his season record to 4-2, and in Mountain West play he improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.55.

Friday's win set the tone as the Wolf Pack captured the series, taking two of three to move past the Lobos and into first place in the Mountain West at 10-5.

Nevada (21-15, 10-5 MW) begins a five-game home stand Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. against Saint Mary's before hosting UNLV in a three-game conference set beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m.
