No. 5 Nevada battles back to take down No. 4 Grand Canyon to advance to the semifinals of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - No. 5 seed Nevada takes down the No. 4 seed Grand Canyon on Thursday afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship.

Nevada was trailing at the half, 40-34, but made the comeback to come out with an 80-84 victory over Grand Canyon. The Lopes were the only Mountain West team to be undefeated when leading at the half in 2025-26.

Led by Corey Camper Jr. with 27 points and six rebounds, the Pack shot 49 percent from the field, 40 percent from three, and 80 percent from the line. Vaughn Weems made his impact in the game with 16 points, seven rebounds, and a steal. Weems went 10-for-11 from the line for a career high.

Elijah Price contributed to the offense with three assists, a season high for the redshirt sophomore. Kaleb Lowery and Tayshawn Comer were one point shy of double digits with nine points apiece.

The Pack dominated the paint, outscoring the Lopes, 30-24, and the points from the bench, 17-8.

The Nevada defense held the Lopes to 48 percent shooting from the field, 44 percent from beyond the arc, and 66 percent from the line. Comer led the defense with three steals, followed by Tyler Rolison with two.

First Half:
Grand Canyon started ahead of Nevada with a 9-4 score.
The Pack cut continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 14-10 on a free throw by Amotrading after a layup.
Nevada came within one point after a second-chance dunk by freshman Peyton White.
The Lopes went on an 8-0 run to put them on the largest lead of the half, 32-21.
The Pack was able to get a stop on the Lopes' offense in the final seconds of the half, but was unable to come close to a 40-34 score for GCU.

Second Half:
Nevada came out strong from the locker room with a 7-0 run.
Tayshawn Comer got a steal to set up Vaughn Weems for an easy layup on a fast break to put the Pack up 41-40.
Nevada and Grand Canyon continued to battle, keeping the game close, 59-58, going to the 8-minute media timeout.
The Pack kept the lead, making key free throws down the line to give Nevada an 84-80 victory over Grand Canyon.

Up Next:
Nevada will move on to the semifinals to face either Utah State on Friday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Basketball Championship.
