RENO, Nev. — Nevada's Katie Wetteland has been named the D1Softball Mid‑Major Freshman of the Week, earning national recognition after a dominant weekend at the Jane Sanders Classic.

This is her second honor of the week after being named Mountain West Freshman of the Week. 

Wetteland was a dangerous hitter, finishing the weekend with a staggering .647 average, 11 hits, seven RBIs, and five extra‑base hits across five games. She set the tone early on March 6, opening the event with three‑ and four‑hit performances that featured a double in each contest and a home run against Oregon State.

Her impact only grew as the weekend progressed. Wetteland added two more hits in Saturday's rematch with Oregon State and later crushed her second home run of the tournament, driving in three runs to help lift Nevada past No. 18/18 Oregon. The victory marked the Wolf Pack's first win over a top‑25 opponent since 2021.

Nevada (16–9) now shifts its focus to Mountain West play, returning home for a three‑game series against Boise State this Friday through Sunday. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
