RENO, Nev. — Nevada Softball's Katie Wetteland has been named the Mountain West Co‑Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The honor comes on the heels of a dominant opening weekend at the Tiger Classic, where Wetteland delivered one of the most explosive debuts in the league.
Wetteland set the tone immediately, with a 3-for-3, two‑homer, five‑RBI performance in Nevada's 9–0, five-inning win over Illinois. She finished the game with nine total bases, the highest single‑game total by any Nevada player throughout the weekend.
Wetteland continued to produce, adding hits against both Lamar and No. 16/13 LSU, recording hits in four of Nevada's five games. Wetteland reached base consistently, including a walk and a hit in Nevada's 8–0, five-inning win over Lamar, and closed the tournament with five hits, two home runs, and six RBIs, leading the Wolf Pack in slugging across the event.
Her performance helped Nevada to a 3–2 weekend, including shutout victories over Illinois, NC State, and Lamar.
