Baton Rouge, La. – Nevada Softball opened its 2026 season with an impressive first day at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earning a dominant 9-0 run‑rule victory over Illinois then battling nationally-ranked No. 16/13 LSU before falling 6-2 in the evening matchup.
Nevada now turns its attention to day two of the Tiger Classic, where the Pack will face NC State Saturday at 10:30 a.m. before meeting LSU for a second time at 3:30 p.m.

 The Wolf Pack came out strong against Illinois, powered by a breakout performance from freshman
Katie Wetteland, who launched her first career home run in a Nevada uniform and the team's first of the season. Wetteland finished the opener 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs, setting the tone for the Pack's offensive surge.
Karolyn Glover added a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two home runs of her own, marking her first long balls with Nevada and driving in three runs.
In the circle,
Hailey McLean delivered a commanding season debut, going the distance with just three hits allowed, and six strikeouts.

Nevada then shifted its focus to its second game of the day against No. 16/13 LSU. The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Pack continued to apply pressure. In the third,
Madison Clark capitalized on a wild pitch and stole home to bring Nevada within 3-1.
Nevada struck again in the top of the sixth when
Talia Tretton delivered her first home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-2 and keeping the Pack within striking distance. LSU responded in the bottom half of the inning, extending its lead and holding off Nevada's late push to close out the game.
Talia Tretton made an impact on both sides of the ball, going 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and an RBI while also striking out four but giving up four runs over five innings in the circle.
Madison Clark added a steady offensive performance of her own, finishing the game with two hits.
