Nevada gets back in win column with victory over Air Force

Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Basketball got back into the win column with its highest scoring game of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Air Force, 76-59.

The tempo from the opening quarter propelled Nevada (8-16, 4-10 MW) into an early lead that it never gave up. The Pack opened up with an 8-0 run and held Air Force (11-13, 5-9 MW) without a score until four-and-a-half minutes into the game.

The Pack dominated in several areas, including bench points (35-8), second-chance points (17-2) and rebounds (46-27). Nevada also tied its most 3-pointers in a game this season with eight. 

Nevada began and ended the game with high shooting from the floor. In the first quarter, the Pack shot 50 percent and closed out the game shooting 77.8 percent, while going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. 

Nevada closed out the first quarter with a 10-4 run, ending the opening 10 with a 20-10 lead. 

Momentum continued to swing in favor of the Pack into the beginning of the second quarter, seeing a lead of 15. With seven minutes left in the half, Nevada fell into a scoring drought that lasted nearly four minutes. 

Air Force had a run of 7-0 with just two minutes remaining in the half, cutting the lead to six. 

Nevada came out of the break slower than the first half, but found its rhythm again late in the third. The Pack forced the Falcons to go without a field goal for over half of the third quarter. 

The Pack continued to add on through the fourth, seeing its largest lead of 20. Skylar Durley put the nail in the coffin with a turnaround jumper in the final seconds of the game. 

She went on to record her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and just as many rebounds. Izzy Sullivan led the Pack in scoring with 17 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and going 3-for-5 from deep. Britain Backus had a career high 12 points, going 5-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.

Nevada will remain at home to face San Diego State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
