Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Basketball hosted rival UNLV on Saturday afternoon, falling in a battle until the end, 62-57.
The fourth quarter and free throws served as the deciding factor in a game that was never more than a 10-point difference. The Pack went 7-for-13 from the line for 53.8 percent on the day. The final quarter was the only one where Nevada was outscored.Â
Nevada (7-13, 3-7 MW) went toe-to-toe with UNLV (14-6, 9-1) right out of the gate. After the Lady Rebels grabbed the first three,
Makayla Carter matched it on the Pack's first possession. From there, Nevada went on a 7-0 run to grab its first lead just over halfway into the opening 10. The Pack held the Lady Rebels without a field goal for nearly three minutes.Â
Into the second, Nevada forced UNLV into another scoring drought, this time over five minutes. Neither team seemed to be able to get shots to fall in the middle of the second until the Pack hit back-to-back buckets to regain the lead.
After going back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, the game was tied at 32.
The Pack started slower in the second half as the Lady Rebels tried to pull away. Despite being down by double-digits, Nevada rallied with a 14-1 run over the span of five minutes to put it up by three.Â
The third quarter went in favor of the Pack, 16-15, as it took a 48-47 lead into the fourth.Â
UNLV opened the final 10 with a 6-0 run that Nevada couldn't come back from. The Pack was playing from behind for the entire fourth, getting within three, but unable to overtake the Lady Rebels.Â
Nevada improved on ball protection with only seven turnovers for the entire game. It also took the ball away six times and turned those takeaways into 10 points.Â
Izzy Sullivan led in scoring for the Pack with 13 points.
Skylar Durley had 10 points with six rebounds.Â
Nevada will have a bye week before heading to San Diego State on January 31, with tip set for 1 p.m.Â
