Nevada lands eight to Athlon Sports Preseason All-Mountain West Teams

RENO, Nev. - Eight Wolf Pack players earned nine selections to the 2025 Athlon Sports Preseason All-Mountain West Teams.

Four Wolf Pack players earned their second preseason nod of summer. Marcus Bellon found his name called twice, being recognized for his punt-return talent on the First Team as a specialist and grabbing a spot on the Second Team at wide receiver. Josh Grabowski was named to the Second Team's offensive line while on defense, cornerback AJ Odums and safety Murvin Kenion III were each named to the Fourth Team. Each of the four Wolf Pack players were named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-Mountain West Teams on June 18.

Joining the quartet on Athlon Sports' teams are offensive lineman Andrew Madrigal (Second Team), running back Herschel Turner (Third Team), defensive lineman Thomas Witte (Third Team) and linebacker Stone Combs (Third Team).

Bellon had a big debut season for Nevada in 2024, demonstrating his versatility by finishing third on the team in receptions (39) and receiving yards (522), and tying for second in touchdown catches (four) while rushing for 37 yards on nine carries. The Truckee native also completed 1-of-2 passes, with the completion going for 44 yards and a touchdown at Boise State. A 2022 All-C-USA Honorable Mention on special teams who averaged nearly six yards per punt return and took one for a touchdown while with UTEP, Bellon was already avoided by opponents in his debut Wolf Pack season, averaging 8.2 yards over just nine returns with a long of 32.

Grabowski became one of the anchors of The Union by the end of the 2024 campaign. He appeared in 12 games, making seven starts, and even filled in as a tight end on jumbo packages.

At center, Andrew Madrigal has made 36 appearances including 33 starts for The Union over the last three seasons. Starting all 12 games in 2023 and all 13 last year, Madrigal is one of the longest-tenured regulars on the Wolf Pack line.

Witte, a sixth-year member of the Pack, appeared in all 13 games in 2024 with 12 starts. An anchor of the defensive line, Witte finished the campaign with 34 tackles, 1.5 going for loss. Having started 24 of Nevada's past 25 games since 2023, Witte has posted 8.0 TFL with two fumble recoveries over the last three years.

Combs appeared in all 13 games for Nevada in 2024, elevating to a starting role in the season's final four contests. Finishing the season with 58 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery, Combs proved himself a tackling machine late with eight tackles at Boise State, and 11-tackle game against Air Force, and a career-high 12 at UNLV.

Kenion comes to Reno after stops at Sacramento State (2024), Idaho (2022-23), and City College of San Francisco (2021). Last season for the Hornets, he was one of just two defensive players to start all 12 games, finishing with 51 tackles, two interceptions, nine passes defended, and 1.5 tackles-for-loss. Over his two seasons at Idaho, he made four interceptions and broke up 20 passes.

Odums returns to the Mountain West in 2025, having previously played for New Mexico from 2021-22. The Houston native played 18 games for the Lobos, racking up 57 tackles (34 solo) with 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack, five pass breakups and an interception. From 2023-24 he played at UTEP, recording an interception with 12 pass breakups and 51 tackles over 16 games all of which he started. Last season, Odums started UTEP's first four games at cornerback before utilizing his redshirt.

Turner will make his debut for Nevada this fall, but it well familiar with the Mountain West as he spent 2024 at Utah State. Turner utilized his redshirt, appearing in three games over which he carried 25 times for 94 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for eight yards. As a prep out of Mt. Diablo High School, he earned MaxPreps first-team all-state honors and was named the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division Offensive MVP following his senior season (2023) at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord, Calif. His outstanding senior campaign featured Turner rushing for 3,027 yards and 42 touchdowns, both of which were single-season school records, with the rushing yards also a Bay Area and North Coast Section regular-season record.

Nevada opens the 2025 campaign Saturday, Aug. 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Penn State, on CBS. The Pack returns to Reno to host its first two contests at Mackay Stadium on back-to-back Saturdays, taking on Sacramento State Sept. 6 and Middle Tennessee Sept. 13.
