RENO, Nev. — Nevada Men's Basketball has officially announced the signing of Vaughn Weems, a dynamic 6-foot-5 guard who spent the past two seasons at North Idaho College. A native of Federal Way, Washington, Weems joins the Wolf Pack after a standout sophomore campaign that saw him finish second in the nation among junior college scorers.
Weems averaged 26.7 points per game last season, trailing only Casper College's Abdul Bashir (27.2 ppg) among all Juco players. He added 8.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 53.1 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three, and 78.4 percent from the free-throw line. His 88 steals ranked eighth nationally, and his 241 free throw attempts were third most in the country.
"Vaughn is an exciting addition to our backcourt," said Nevada head coach Steve Alford. "He plays with great tempo, competes on both ends, and has a natural ability to score. His energy, toughness, and feel for the game make him a strong fit for our program."
Weems chose Nevada over a number of Division I programs including New Mexico State, Green Bay, Ball State, Montana State, and Montana. His commitment marks Nevada's first junior-college signee since Robby Robinson in 2019.
As a freshman, Weems came off the bench and averaged 14.4 points on an efficient 62.7 percent shooting. He showed significant development in his second year, proving he can score at all three levels. He knocked down 76-of-192 three-point attempts (39.6 percent) over two seasons and demonstrated his strength and athleticism by attacking the rim and finishing through contact.Nevada is looking for Weems to make an immediate impact in the Mountain West as a high-level scorer and versatile defender.
