RENO, Nev. – Nevada Women's Tennis did not lose a set in its Sunday win against Pacific. Three doubles victories, as well as six straight-set victories, earned the Pack a 7-0 victory.
Amahée Charrier and
Kennedy Robinson got the day going with a 6-3 victory over Milena Maiorova and Rayna Sugai. Neither team held their serve until Charrier and Robinson broke the Tigers to take a 5-3 lead before holding serve one last time.
Marlene Foerster and
Silvia-Maria Costache took a 3-0 lead on court one, eventually pushing the lead to 5-1 with a break against Megan Carmichael and Alexis Sam. Pacific returned with a break of its own, but Foerster and Costache held on to win 6-3.
Pacific looked to run away with the third doubles match, leading 5-2. However,
Wiem Boubaker and
Petra Janigova won five consecutive games, breaking Maggie Hoe and Leyanne Hirota twice to come back and win 7-5, completing the doubles sweep for the second day in a row.
The Wolf Pack continues its perfect record in doubles play, winning all nine doubles sessions so far this season.
The singles sweep was on immediately, with Nevada taking strong first-set leads in five matches.
Robinson was the first to get it done for the Pack, defeating Hoe 6-0, 6-1 on court five.
Lou-Anne Guerbert finished second for Nevada, defeating Sam 6-3, 6-2.
Janigova clinched for the Pack, winning 6-2, 6-1 on court six. Janigova closed the first set with four straight games won. She won three more in a row to seal the victory.
Costache broke Sugai twice early in the first set to get out to a 4-1 lead. After winning the first set 6-3, Costache broke Sugai twice more in the second set to win 6-2.
Foerster's first set was all over the place, falling behind 1-2 to Maiorova. Foerster then held serve and broke the Tiger, taking the lead before Maiorova did the same right back to Foerster, taking a 5-4 lead herself. Foerster finished the first set with three games won in a row to win 7-5. Foerster dominated the second set, winning 6-1.
Charrier broke Carmichael in the first game of the match and again to take a 4-1 lead. Carmichael got a break back, looking to make a comeback, but Charrier broke Carmichael once again to win the first set. Both players held serve for a while to start set two, tied 3-3. Charrier eventually broke away, winning the set 7-5 to complete the sweep.
The Wolf Pack is now heading into conference play, facing Colorado State and Wyoming next week on the road. The conference opener against the Rams is on Friday, March 14, at 10 a.m. or 2:30 p.m., depending on whether the match is played outdoors or indoors. Nevada will then face the Cowgirls on Sunday at 10 a.m.
