Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nevada Falls to New Mexico in Lawlor

RENO, Nev.- Nevada fell short against New Mexico on Senior Night, falling 67-71 in a hard-fought battle at Lawlor Events Center. With the loss, New Mexico clinched at least a share of the Mountain West regular season title, while Nevada dropped to 16-14 overall and 8-11 in conference play.

The Wolf Pack struggled from deep, shooting just 21 percent from three-point range, hitting only 4-of-19 attempts. Nevada did its work inside, outscoring the Lobos 30-20 in the paint and getting solid performances from Nick Davidson and Kobe Sanders, but it wasn't quite enough down the stretch. Missed opportunities at the free-throw line, where the Pack shot 65 percent, and a few key turnovers proved costly in the final minutes. Despite the result, Nevada battled until the end, showing flashes of what they're capable of heading into the

First Half

Nevada came out swinging in the first half, feeding off the home crowd's energy and shooting 50 percent from the field. The Pack built a seven-point lead midway through the half, but New Mexico's hot shooting from three—where they hit 50 percent in the first 20 minutes—helped the Lobos erase that gap.

Even with 18 points in the paint and eight second-chance points, Nevada couldn't quite pull away. Kobe Sanders provided an early spark with eight quick points, and Tyler Rolison ran the offense well with three assists before halftime. Turnovers hurt, though, as the Pack gave it away eight times, which New Mexico turned into 13 points. Despite the mistakes, Nevada kept it tight, heading into the breakdown just 41-38.

Second Half

The second half turned into a grind, and Nevada couldn't quite find the rhythm to close it out. After briefly taking the lead, the Pack struggled from deep, hitting just 22 percent from beyond the arc and finishing the game just 4-of-19 from three.

Free throws became an issue, too, with the team hitting only 50 percent in the second half, leaving crucial points on the board. Nick Davidson carried the offense late, scoring 11 of his 15 points after halftime, and the Pack battled to keep the game within reach. But every time Nevada made a push, New Mexico had an answer, including a big three from Mustapha Amzil in the final minutes. Despite the loss, Nevada showed fight until the very end, and the focus now shifts to cleaning things up before the Mountain West tournament.
