Wolf Pack sweep Gaels in home opener

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Men's Tennis played at McArthur Tennis Center for the first time this season after opening the schedule with 12 matches on the road. The Pack completed the season sweep of Saint Mary's with a 4-0 victory, Tuesday.

The doubles session was comprised of three matches dominated by one team. The Gaels took the first match, opening with a 5-0 lead on court two. Paulo Hugo Etchecoin and Ellison Greco ended up defeating Rémy Trégourès and Max Contet, 6-1. Lucas Hammond and Axel Huysmans tied the double sessions with their 6-1 victory against Finn Dyer and Pierre Lieutaud on court three.

Youssef Kadiri and Rayen Hermassi closed out the doubles session getting the Pack the win. Kadiri and Hermassi broke Thibaud Maxant and Carlos Ramos early to take a lead and again to finish the game. Kadiri and Hermassi won the top-flight match, 6-2.

The singles session was tighter than the scoreboard showed, but the Pack were able to clinch their three victories quick, preserving the sweep.

Hermassi got the Pack their first win, defeating Francisco Duran with a dominant second set, 6-3, 6-1.

Trégourès trailed in his first set, 4-5 but earned a huge break to take a 6-5 lead and win his service game to take the set, 7-5. Trégourès used the momentum to win the second set, 6-1.

Hammond won his first after taking a 3-0 lead and winning both games following the final changeover, breaking Maxant twice in the set to win, 6-1. Maxant held his own through second set, forcing a tiebreaker. Down 0-2 and 1-3 in the tiebreaker, Hammond fought back, winning four straight points to take a 5-3 lead. Hammond and Maxant traded points until Hammond won the tiebreaker, 7-5, clinching the match for the Pack.

In the top-flight match, Kadiri fought from behind to force a tiebreaker and win the first set, 7-6 (3). Ramos led the second set 4-2 when the match was abandoned.

Saint Mary's won the first set in each of the two remaining matches on courts two and four. Etchecoin won the first 6-4, however, Paul Théate 6-5 in the second set. Dyer led Huysmans, 6-2, 6-5 in the fourth match.
