Bailey Heydra was edged out of the final automatic qualifying spot on 1-Meter Springboard by 4.30 points Wednesday at the Zone E Diving Championships.
Heydra, the Mountain West champion in the event, finished ninth, pushed out of the eighth spot by UCLA's Molly Brascia on the second-to-last dive of the competition. Heydra posted her best score of the final with a 48.75 on her sixth and final dive, finishing with a score of 503.35, but Brascia, the second-to-last diver in the order, scored 46.80 on her final attempt to move into eighth with a final score of 507.65.
The preliminary round ended with Heydra in 10th position at 245.85 points, 8.30 out of eighth. Heydra was part of a pack of six divers between ninth and 14th places separated by just 3.05 points.
In the prelim, Heydra did well to rebound from a third-dive score of 26.45, posting nothing under 41.60 for her other five dives, and finishing with a 45.00 on her final dive to solidify her spot in the final.
Wednesday's action ends a strong return season for Heydra, who medaled in all three events at the Mountain West Championships—along with her gold on 1-Meter, Heydra captured silver in both 3-Meter Springboard and Platform at the conference meet.
