Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball closed out the regular season series against San José State on Saturday, falling to the Spartans with a final of 72-67.
In the opening quarter, the Wolf Pack were going basket for basket with the Spartans. San José State got on the board first, but Nevada tied it up in its next possession with a jumper by
Izzy Sullivan.
The Pack saw their first lead of the game come with just under seven minutes to go in the first 10 when
Olivia Poulivaati scored off of a turnover by the Spartans.
The teams continued to trade the lead through the entire first. There were nine lead changes and five ties in the opening 10 alone.
After two made free throws by
Dymonique Maxie, the Pack took the advantage into the second quarter, 17-16.
Into the start of quarter two, Nevada went on a 6-2 scoring run through the first two and a half minutes to go up by five. After the Spartans scored their first of the quarter from the paint, Sullivan then splashed a three to put the Pack up six.
Halfway through the second, the Spartans went on a run to tie it up at 26.
Audrey Roden quickly put the Pack back in front with a jumper.
With a little under two minutes left before halftime, Nevada found itself down for the first time in the quarter. Once again, Roden came through. This time she had a layup to tie the game at 32.
Lexie Givens then had one of her own for the Nevada advantage.
It was a new game heading into the third as the teams were all tied up at 34.
Sullivan and Givens kicked off the third by each making two from the charity stripe to put Nevada up by four. The Pack then found themselves trailing before Sullivan knocked down a three for a one-point lead.
From there, Nevada struggled to stop San José State offensively as the Spartans took a 10-point lead, the most by either team in the game.
Heading into the final quarter, the Pack had some work to do as they were trailing, 57-49.
The fourth quarter kicked off with Givens grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back up to cut the advantage to eight.
Nevada went to work cutting into the lead even more, getting within two with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
Despite the efforts, Nevada was never able to grab hold of the lead again, ultimately dropping the road game to San José State.
Givens had a season high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. Sullivan had 14 points, while Maxie contributed with 12.
Nevada will have another road game, taking on Fresno State on February 12 at 6 PM.
