Box Score RENO, Nev. - In their second to last home game of the season, Nevada women's basketball hosted Wyoming, falling late to the Cowgirls with a final score of 45-42.
Imbie Jones kicked things off with a three in the opening possession for the Pack. The Cowgirls tied it up with a three of their own before Tori Davis put the Pack back up with one from the charity stripe.Â
After trailing for a brief period,
Audrey Roden and
Lexie Givens each added two for an 11-8 Nevada lead into the second quarter.
The Pack continued to build upon their momentum, as they only allowed the Cowgirls to score four times in the entire second quarter.Â
Meanwhile, Nevada saw its largest lead of the half come as it scored nine times for a 13-point lead. The Pack shot 50% in the second, while holding the Cowgirls to just over 27%.Â
Through the first half, the Pack recorded four blocks and grabbed 18 rebounds, 16 of them were defensive.Â
Heading into the break, Nevada was holding a 10-point lead, 26-16.Â
Nevada continued its strong defensive stand into the second half, not allowing a single basket by Wyoming through the first five minutes of the third. Offensively, the Pack saw their largest lead of the game of 16.Â
Late in the third, Wyoming made a push and cut the lead to single digits. However, Nevada never allowed them closer than nine. By the end of the quarter, the Pack were leading, 37-28.Â
Into the final 10, Nevada had back-to-back baskets to go up 14. Jones started it with a layup, followed by Davis with a three. Momentum began to shift as Wyoming slowly made a push for the lead.
With just over a minute and a half to go in regulation, the Pack found themselves down for the first time since early in the opening quarter. The Cowgirls took a three-point lead and despite a good look from Davis, the Pack weren't able to come out on top.
Givens recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jones shot 50% from the paint and 100% from beyond the arc for 10 points. Roden grabbed the second most boards for the Pack with nine.
Nevada will remain at home to host Colorado State on Feb 26th at 6:30 PM.
