Byrnes will bring his electric persona and love for the game to this year's Dolan Dinner. The 11-year Major Leaguer began his big-league career with the Oakland A's (2000-05) before spending time with the Colorado Rockies (2005), Baltimore Orioles (2005), Arizona Diamondbacks (2006-09), and Seattle Mariners (2010). Byrnes made the postseason four times (2001-03 with Oakland, 2007 with Arizona), and thrice hit at least 20 homers in a season (2004, 2006-07).
Byrnes made his Major League debut with the A's in 2000, and over five-plus seasons with the club batted .270 with 396 hits including 45 homers while driving in 164 runs. While making his debut with the 2000 AL West championship team, Byrnes went on to be a full-time member of the back-to-back 2002-03 division championship squads as well as the 2001 wild-card team. For the A's celebration of 50 seasons in Oakland ahead of the 2018 campaign, Byrnes was voted by the fans onto the club's 50th Anniversary Team.
Byrnes began his professional broadcasting career even during his playing days, serving as an analyst on ESPN's Baseball Tonight for the 2006 postseason, contributing to Fox's pregame shows during the World Series, and hosting radio shows both on San Francisco-based KNBR and XM Satellite Radio. Upon his retirement as a player in 2010, Byrnes moved full-time into his broadcasting career, spending 11 years with MLB Network (2010-21) in addition to hosting the night-time slot on KNBR. His work has also included being part of the broadcast teams for ESPN's coverage of the College World Series and the Pac-12 Network's baseball coverage.
Byrnes is also the author of three books: "The F*It List: Life Lessons From a Human Crash Test Dummy," "The Daily Hustle 222: Unfiltered Life Guidance From A Human Crash Test Dummy," and "Let Them Play: A Parenting and Coaching Guide To Youth Sports."
