Nevada wins conference opener against Boise State

RENO, Nev. - Nevada (9-3) opened Mountain West play in dominant fashion, earning an 81-66 victory over Boise State (8-4) on Saturday night inside Lawlor Events Center.

Tayshawn Comer set the tone for the offense with a game-high 24 points and four assists. Comer was followed by Elijah Price, who added 11 points and six rebounds to the score. Price also led the Pack defense with three steals and a block.

Nevada shot efficiently, finishing the night at 56 percent (25-for-45) from the field, 44 percent (4-for-9) from three-point range, and 79 percent (27-for-34) at the free-throw line.

The Pack defense forced 13 Boise State turnovers and limited the Broncos to 44 percent (20-for-45) shooting and 32 percent (7-for-22) from beyond the arc.

First Half:
The Pack took control early in the first half, building momentum behind Comer's scoring.

At the eight-minute mark, Comer made a jumper to extend Nevada's lead to 21-15.

The Pack pushed the advantage to 11 later in the half after a Price layup off a Broncos turnover.

Nevada closed out the half with a 36-26 lead.

Second Half:
Coming out of the locker room, Nevada continued to set the pace of the game.

Amire Robinson knocked down a jumper to give the Pack its largest lead of the night at 24 points.

Boise State attempted to rally late, cutting the deficit to 12 with seven minutes remaining, but Nevada responded and closed out the game, 81-66, to secure its first conference win of the season.

Nevada continues conference play, traveling to Fort Collins, Colo., for a matchup against Colorado State on December 30 at 6 pm.
