Nevada wins fourth straight home game with victory over Utah Valley

Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball kept its home court domination alive on Monday night after taking down Utah Valley, 71-42. The win marks the Pack's fourth straight home victory. 

Freshman Gabby Ramos put on a lights-out performance with 20 points, going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, 6-for-11 from the field and shooting 100 percent from the line. Maia Rosarion had nine points, going 4-for-4 on the night. Skylar Durley contributed with nine points of her own and six rebounds, and Makayla Carter led in rebounding with eight. Nevada also found its touch from deep, going 8-for-14 from 3-point range a game after not hitting one in 13 attempts.

Defensively, Nevada held Utah Valley to 2-for-20 from 3-point range and 25.9 percent overall.

Right out of the gate, Nevada won the jump and took it down for a layup by Izzy Sullivan for a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later, Sullivan doubled the lead with a turnaround jumper. 

Nevada continued to add on while shutting Utah Valley down. For over four minutes, the Wolverines were denied from scoring, and only scored seven points in the opening quarter. 

The Pack ended the opening quarter on an 8-0 run and shot 63.6 percent, while holding the Wolverines to just 16.7 percent.

Nevada began to create some distance in the second quarter, going up by as much as 18. At the seven and a half minute mark, the Pack went on a 10-0 run and forced the Wolverines into a scoring drought for three minutes.

Utah Valley then cut the lead down to 11 with 44 seconds remaining, but Ahrray Young knocked down a three at the buzzer to take a 33-19 advantage into the break.

The third quarter started slower for the Pack, but with just over four minutes remaining they began to find their momentum again. The Pack extended the lead back to 18 with a free throw by Durley. From there, they pushed the lead even further, going up 25 following two 3-pointers from Ramos, paired with a jumper by Sullivan.

The Pack led, 53-28, headed into the fourth quarter, and the scoring didn't stop as they continued to extend the lead all the way up to as much as 31. 

The scoring and tough defense proved to be too much for the Wolverines as the Pack secured the win.

Nevada will next compete in the Portland tournament this weekend, taking on Eastern Washington Friday at 5 p.m., and the host Pilots Saturday at 3 p.m.
