RENO, Nev. - Nevada volleyball dropped a hard-fought match in straight sets to New Mexico on Thursday night.
Nevada came out strong in the opening frame, trading points early and even holding a 5-2 lead behind two aces from
Bella Snyder and two kills from
Haylee Brown. The Pack weren't able to hold onto the lead as the Lobos went on a run to put them in front. Nevada found itself down by as much as six, before a late push that included three consecutive kills cut the lead to two.
The momentum wasn't enough for the Pack to jump in front, dropping the opener, 25-22.
Set two was the closest of the three. Nevada grabbed the first two points with kills by Snyder and Brown. There were then seven ties before the Lobos went on a 5-0 run late. The Pack cut it back within three, but ultimately fell, 25-20.
Nevada struggled through the third set as New Mexico got the lead early. Despite being down by as much as seven, the Pack made a late push with kills by Brown and
Kamryn Tifft, as well as an ace by
Summer Suppik, to make the score 22-19. They couldn't overtake the Lobos, losing the third with a final of 25-20.
The Pack's offense was led by Brown, who posted a match-high 17 kills, while Snyder added eight. Audrey Jensen contributed 22 assists and 9 digs.
Nevada will play its final home game of the season on Saturday, hosting GCU at 6 PM on Senior Night.
