Brown sets career high in kills in five-set win over Wyoming

RENO, Nev. - In a career night for Haylee Brown, Nevada volleyball earned a thrilling victory in five sets over Wyoming, making it their second straight win.

Brown led both teams in kills with a career high 21. Nicanora Clarke and Mckaley Herr followed with 13 a piece. Nevada had more kills in four of the five sets and had a total of 20 more kills than Wyoming, with 65 to their 45.

Ceren Sert recorded four blocks, followed by Bella Snyder with three and Clarke with two. Audrey Jensen led both teams in assists with 23, while Kinsley Singleton led in digs with 18. 

The Pack opened the match with a 6-2 run that began with an ace for Summer Suppik and was capped off by an attack error by the Cowgirls. 

Nevada went up by as much as eight in the first, before Wyoming had a small run that cut the lead in half. 

Late in the first, the Cowgirls went on a 3-0 run that brought them back within two, but the Pack held them off and secured the 25-22 victory in the opening set with a kill by Brown.

Into the second, Wyoming got its first lead of the game early on before Nevada regained the advantage with a 3-0 run that included a kill by Snyder and two by Clarke, putting the Pack up by two. 

Nevada found itself playing from behind for the remainder of the set, tying it up once at 16, before falling behind again. Wyoming went on to tie the match at one set a piece after taking the second, 25-19.

For the third straight set, Nevada came out with the opening point. Set three was a tight battle as each team fought for the lead. There were six lead changes and 10 ties. 

Late in the third, the Pack jumped in front with a kill by Brown, 18-17, and held the lead through the rest of the set. They went on to have the largest lead of the third by as many as five after a kill by Clarke and two by Herr. Wyoming got one more point before a service error by the Cowgirls gave the Pack the 25-20 win.

Nevada struggled to keep the momentum into the fourth as it found itself falling behind by as much as 11. Wyoming went on to tie the match at two sets a piece after taking the fourth, 25-16.

The fifth and final began with a 4-0 run by the Cowgirls. Slowly, the Pack began their comeback, starting with three consecutive kills that brought them within two, 7-5. 

Wyoming attempted to put more space between them, but Nevada clawed its way back to take the lead with an ace by Suppik, that was followed up by three more points. 

From there, the Pack held off the Cowgirls and clinched the win with a kill by Jess Walkenhorst.

Nevada will remain at home to take on Colorado State on Saturday at 12 PM.
